12th December 2004

The 12th of December 2004 was a very well attended day at the quarry. Conditions were suitably bad, which of course is just what everyone wanted. As you can from the photos above the day was not without incident. A Land Rover toppled on its side with no real damage to vehicle or driver was quickly righted with the aid of two Land Rovers with winches. This rescue was captured by the camera and can  be seen by clicking here. There was also a very deep 'puddle' in the quarry and as you can see by clicking here there were one or two attempts at drowning made by some of the 4x4's.

There was also a birthday to celebrate on this visit, John Crabtree reached the BIG 40 and decided to celebrate in style at the quarry.

John "The Winchman" Crabtree, a newly acquired nickname as he received "amongst other things" a winch for his 40th Birthday from his wife Lorraine (He spent a considerable part of the day winching out a lot of stuck vehicles). The party was started at Whitworth Quarry where Off Road friends from The Green Lane Club & West Coast 4 x 4 (Off Road Specialist, Gorsey Lane, Banks Nr Southport) met up for a mud bath. A great day was had by all as you can see from the photographs.

9th January 2005

The New Year got off to a suitably muddy start with the first visit on Sunday 9th January 2005. As you may remember there was a considerable amount of rain early this year and a good deal of it ended up in this quarry. Vehicles with winches were very much in demand throughout the day as many parts of the quarry had turned into a sea of mud. This was obviously considered a challenge to a great many drivers, some of them got through, many of them did not.
